When and how did your company get its start?

In June of 2014, Eric Bouvet and Michael O’Byrne (both having gained over 30 years of experience in the security field while working for other retailers) sat down one evening to discuss what was missing in the industry. The wanted to provide quality care for homeowners and they decided at that very moment to build a company.  A company, that would put the heart back in your home by introducing top security professionals that are focused on your home, your family, and your safety. Today, the relationship with ADT has grown and moved Affinity Integrated Solutions up to the Top 4th position in the nation.

What does your company specialize in?

Home Automation, Surveillance, Medical Alerts, Burglary, and Fire via ADT Pulse Interactive and the new ADT GO App. This App allows you to stay connected with your family via location and it also includes SOS safety features, driver alerts, crash detection, crime alerts, and Registered Sex Offender notifications. This allows parents the ability to talk to their teens about safe driving practices. Homeowners are now also able to able to save money on Homeowners Insurance and utilities by having ADT.

What’s a typical day working at your company look like?

On a typical day, we’ll do home assessments and installations our process is faster than you would think. A Life Safety Specialist meets the homeowner and a complimentary home assessment takes place where we walk through together and establish a custom Safety program based on the lifestyle and household needs. An installation is typically scheduled immediately and usually takes place within 48 hrs. We take the time to sit down with the client and go over the applications needed to access the system and are available for any additional questions . The installation takes approx 4 hrs for a full home automation with video and as it’s a cellular based system with wireless features we leave the home exactly as we found it but safer !!! We provide a whole home integration system that’s designed to keep you and your families close to home no matter where they are. We also have neighborhood promotions that are brought door to door, online, and at events that give the homeowner an unlimited array of options to protect what matters most. We’ve got amazing plans to upgrade any homeowner with a takeover program. If you’re paying for monitoring on another provider’s older equipment or landline based system we will get you upgraded to a newer system.

What is the best advice you could give to people in the market for your services?

Kalman Construction began in 1988 as the brain-child of Kevin Kalman and his wife Betsy. The company was based out of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Kevin used the construction expertise and work ethic he learned from his home builder father to build and restore homes in the city’s downtown historic district. In 1996, Kevin and Betsy moved to Charleston, South Carolina, bringing the company and several of their employees with them.

Since relocating to the Lowcountry, Kalman Construction has continued to offer a wide variety of services ranging from fully-custom home design and construction to plumbing and electrical work to roof replacement. Kevin and his team’s high standards, customer satisfaction, work ethic, and impressive homes have not gone without recognition. Kalman Construction projects have been featured in magazines locally and across the nation including Better Homes & Gardens and Architectural Digest. Bob Vila has also noticed this company, even making one of their Mt. Pleasant construction projects the subject of a thirteen-segment series for his show Home Again.

On January 14th, 2018, Kevin and his company received yet another honor. Houzz, an international online platform aimed at uniting homeowners and home-service providers, presented Kalman Construction with their Best of Houzz 2018 award for client satisfaction based on the company’s positive online reviews. When and how did your company get its start?
We have been locally owned and operated by the current owners for the past 4 years.  We are proud to be part of America’s #1 swimming pool service company.
What does your company specialize in?
We specialize in swimming pool renovation, repair, and maintenance of both residential and commercial pools.
In the area of renovation, from a re-plaster to a complete backyard overhaul, we will guide you through every step of the way.  We can restore your pool to its initial look, update its appearance, or add new features. We will work closely with you to determine your vision and make a plan that aligns with your needs and budget.  Plus, we use only certified, experienced craftsmen when re-tiling, re-pouring, re-plastering, or replacing your pool decking.  With ASP, you can have the pool you’ve always dreamed about.
As far as pool maintenance, we are able to create a customized swimming pool maintenance schedule to fit your lifestyle.  Our customers absolutely love our very own digital platform called, PoolOps, which emails the time we serviced your pool that day, your pool’s chemical readings, the chemicals we added, and a picture of your clean pool.  We want you to be able to enjoy your pool…leave the tough stuff to us!

What’s a typical day working at your company look like?
Our technicians are out the door early (around 7:15 am) and headed to our customers When you call into our office, you’ll most likely speak to our office manager, Samantha.  By being in direct contact with both our service and maintenance technicians, she is quick to deal with any questions our customers may have as well as any issues that have arisen.  Our owner/operators, Jeremy Johnson and Shaun Hurley spend the day on-site at renovations or meeting with customers.
What’s your favorite part of working and living in Charleston?
Most are aware that Charleston has been ranked #1 by Travel + Leisure Magazine, and we are in complete agreement.  We love the greater Charleston area for the culture, food, history, and beaches.  But most of all, we love the people here.  We find that the residents here are kind, hospitable, honest and hard-working.  There is nowhere else we’d rather live and work!
What is the best advice you could give to people in the market for your services?
We recommend you use a pool company who is licensed and equipped to handle any situation that may arise.  We also believe the answer is in technology!  Using our PoolOps system ( you will have a customer report via email that includes chemical balances and a picture of your clean swimming pool. Our customer’s love receiving these reports.  We realize that you have a choice in pool service companies, and we are grateful for the opportunity and cognizant of the faith our customers put in us.

Lastly, is there anything else you would like people to know about your company?
We are the only full-service swimming pool company in the greater Charleston area that is able to handle leak-detection, in-house.  We are also the only pool company in the area that will re-surface your fiberglass swimming pools.  We are proud to be certified by all major pool equipment manufacturers, which allows us to be a warranty center for all of your pool equipment.
